Born and raised in Cairo, May Heggy have always been interested in designing. She developed a passion for working with beads and had an eye for jewelery from a very young age. Along with her interest in jewelry making and hand-crafts, Heggy was fascinated with the fecundity of the natural world and the contradicting aspects of human nature. While studying Integrated Marketing and Psychology at the American University in Cairo, her love for designing increased, so after graduating, she took jewelry design courses in Central Saint Martins in London. May Heggy believes that jewelry making, like any other form of art, reflects the artist's views, beliefs and tastes. Therefore, being interested in psychology and philosophy, she aims at portraying the dualistic nature of life in my jewelry, since it is a strong characteristic of human nature and the self. She does this by mixing precious and non-precious materials, using contrasting colors, shapes and textures as well as unsymmetric patterns. She likes to work with unusual colors and cuts of semi-precious stones. She describes her jewelry as a high-end product that expresses individuality, trendiness and above all emphasizes sophistication, elegance and femininity with an innovative touch and a bohemian sense of style. Her designs make a powerful feminine statement by blending mysteriousness with glamour. Each piece of her jewelry is hand made. Heggy is mainly inspired by nature, whatever is raw and voluptuous, historical architecture, medieval myths, different art periods and cultures.
